Please join us in Asher Gallery as we celebrate the holidays and our wonderful volunteers, members, and friends with our annual Asher Holiday Soiree & Trunk Show Preview on Thursday, November 21. Enjoy refreshments, nibbles and some seriously fabulous shopping as we kick off the annual HCCC Members’ Double Discount Sale, November 21-24 (members receive a 20% discount on their purchase).

This year’s trunk show highlights the Artist Residency Program by featuring two 2011 alumnae, Leslie Shershow and Paula Haymond. Although their work takes them in very different directions, the two artists have a favorite material in common: wood.

As an emerging sculptor, Paula Haymond seeks to create works that tell stories about Gulf Coast wildlife, deep-ocean landscapes, and lost civilizations through their imagery. Paula uses a variety of techniques and materials to express her vision, from turning and carving wood to using metal inlays. However, she never lets technique overpower the inherent qualities of the wood she selects. Her one-of-a-kind pieces always catch the eye and capture the imagination.

Leslie Shershow’s Maine Series is an exploration of unrecognized beauty and narrative manifested through jewelry. Using subject matter inspired by her childhood in rural Maine, she pays homage to the stingy home improver. Though her inspiration may be unorthodox, the final products have an ineffable charm and sophistication. Leslie uses wood and vintage string, combined with fine metalsmithing techniques, to create lightweight, stylish and unique pieces for your collection.

The trunk show continues on Saturday, November 23, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The artists will be present on Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon, so make sure to drop by and get the inside scoop on their work!
