Please join us on Saturday, August 1st, between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, for our monthly HANDS-ON HOUSTON. This month, participants will make bottle cap pendants, inspired by the works in Course of Action: 50 Years of Jewelry and Enamel at the Glassell School of Art. Draw an image or create a collage of colorful stickers in the center of the flattened silver cap. Seal the image beneath a clear (pre-hardened) epoxy dot. Attach your pendant to a silk cord and wear your creation home! Please allow 10-15 minutes for this drop-in activity.

This activity mimics vitreous enameling, a metalworking technique that has been used to decorate jewelry since ancient times. During this process, crushed glass, mixed with colorful minerals, is fused to a metal surface using a blowtorch or other heat element.

Please Note:  This activity will take place indoors and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. No supplies handed out after 2:50 PM.

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15-20 minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product and history of craft. More information at https://crafthouston.org/learn/education-overview/.
