Please join Asher Gallery on Friday, August 26th, 5:30 – 7:00 PM, for a lively reception featuring former resident artists Lotus Bermudez and René Henry as they introduce new work and spark discussion at the summer trunk show. Enjoy refreshments, nibbles, and fabulous shopping!

In the nine years since her residency at HCCC, Lotus has continued to explore her ideas through clay, using both sculptural and functional forms. Her designs are based on her passions, such as cacti, Texas and science. She is inspired by the world around her and compelled to create works sharing her visions. Many of the works are influenced by objects she collects and her relationships with others, from family and friends to students and clients.

Metalsmith René Henry, one of HCCC’s most recent residents, is inspired by the stylized architecture from the Modernist era, as well as exploring the effects of time and decay on manmade structures. Combining these two influences, this body of work encompasses geometric and biomorphic forms, using hard lines along with organic colors and textures to create an architectural environment declined by age and neglect.

The trunk show continues on Saturday, August 27th, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Don’t miss a special panel discussion at 3:00 PM on Saturday, as the artists discuss life after residency: working as an artist in Houston. The artists will be present on Friday evening and Saturday, so be sure to drop in to learn more about their works and practices.
