Please join us in Asher Gallery on Friday, February 12th, 5:30 – 7:00 PM, for a lively reception featuring local craft artists Amber Tiemann and Julia Gabriel in a special Valentine’s Trunk Show.

Two of the most sought-after artists in Houston, jeweler Amber Tiemann works with mixed media, and Julia Gabriel is a nationally known textile designer.  Though they work in very different media, their deep interests in form, design, and craftsmanship unites their work.

For as long as Amber Tiemann can remember, she always loved to create. She began painting and always found herself drawn to working with color. Tiemann prefers using bright, bold colors, along with enamel, polymer clay, resins, and colored stones within her work. Crisp, strong lines enhance her modern aesthetic. Design inspiration comes to Tiemann in different ways–sometimes it’s from the clean lines of industrial design; other times, mid-century-modern art has a great influence. She finds herself constantly inspired by the many talented, creative artists within her community.

Julia Gabriel, a current resident artist at HCCC, received her BFA in craft and material studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has worked with a variety of materials, from glass to metals, in school, but she never worked with fibers until she started her own studio a few years ago. Gabriel designs handmade accessories, with striking geometric silhouettes and a bold palette, based on the architectural principle of the “golden ratio.” She also has a history in ballet, which influences her decisions in structure and composition. She does everything by hand–from dying to cutting and sewing–in her Houston studio.

At the event, guests will enjoy refreshments, nibbles, and fabulous shopping. The trunk show continues on Saturday, February 13th, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. The artists will be present on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, so make sure to stop by to talk with them about their work!
