Please join current resident artist Lisa Hardaway and volunteers from Surface Design Association Houston to create beautifully patterned bandanas with simple resist techniques and indigo dye, one of the oldest plant-based dyes.

Participants will learn several shibori techniques to create intricate patterns by twisting, folding, and tying a plain cotton bandanna in different ways. After each piece is dipped into a dye vat and wrung out, get ready to be surprised! The indigo will oxidize as the bandana unfolds, turning the cloth from green to a deep blue and revealing a unique pattern.

Before or after the activity, stroll through the galleries, and check out our fall exhibitions, CraftTexas 2016 and BEST IF USED BY, or look for the indigo plant blooming in our Craft Garden.

Note: Please allow 25 minutes to complete this activity. The activity will take place in the Craft Garden and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. No supplies will be handed out after 2:30 PM. In the event of heavy rain, the activities will be cancelled.
